The scandal of Tainted Milk
Who cause it? A factory in China added melamine into it's milk powder to induce proteins content. The chemical is commonly used in coatings and laminates, wood adhesives, fabric coatings, ceiling tiles and flame retardants. Health experts say ingesting melamine can lead to kidney stones, urinary tract ulcers, and eye and skin irritation.Sanlu Group has recalled more than 8,200 tons of the tainted formula following reports of babies developing kidney stones. This episode marks the latest in a string of tainted products produced in China.The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled more than 150 brands of cat and dog food last year after finding that some pets became ill or died after eating food tainted with melamine, the same chemical found in the powdered milk.The tainted-milk scandal that originated in China is turning into a global food scare, as governments ban imports and retailers unilaterally take China milk products off the shelves.Besides milk and milk products such as ice-cream and yogurt, confectionery items such as chocolate, biscuits, sweets and anything that could contain milk from China came under its latest advisory. The list included Snickers bars, M&Ms, Nabisco Chicken In A Biskit, Dove chocolate bars, Mentos yogurt balls, Oreo wafer sticks, and Want Want Take One Baby Bites. Looking at the glass filled with milk will never be the same again. The world will change after this episode just like after 9 /11 ;-)
